Call for Entries: The Vweta Chadwick 2024 Poetry Prize





We are excited to announce the third edition of the Vweta Chadwick Poetry Prize, inviting female poets to share their powerful voices in honour of the remarkable Vweta Chadwick. This year, our theme is Women Together - We Heal, We Build, We Lift, celebrating the unity, resilience, and transformative journeys of women.

About the Prize

The Vweta Chadwick Poetry Prize celebrates the life and legacy of Vweta Chadwick, a tireless advocate for women’s empowerment and rights. This prize aims to continue her mission by creating a platform for female poets to express their experiences and inspire change.

This Year's Theme: Women Together - We Heal, We Build, We Lift

We invite submissions that reflect:

  • The healing journeys of women overcoming adversity.

  • The power of community and unity among women.

  • The diverse challenges faced by women across different cultures and societies.

  • Stories of hope and transformation, fostering inspiration and change.

Categories

This year, the competition is open to two categories:

  • Senior Category: Open to female poets aged 18 to 26 in Higher institutions or undergraduate

  • Junior Category: Open to female poets aged 16 to 20 (Must be in senior high school or recently graduated high school.

Submission Guidelines

  • Eligibility: Open to all female poets Living in Nigeria.

  • Submission Period: Entries must be submitted by 10 pm, June 30th WAT.

  • Format: Original, unpublished works in English. Each poet may submit up to two poems, with a maximum length of 30 lines per poem.

  • Persons living with disability are strongly advised to apply

Prizes

  • Senior Category First Prize, Junior Category First Prize and Second and Third Prizes: Cumulative cash awards up to N500,000 and recognition on our website and social media platforms.

All shortlisted poets will have their work featured in a special anthology celebrating the theme, Women Together - We Heal, We Build, We Lift.

Award Ceremony

Join us for the virtual award ceremony on [Date will be published], where we will celebrate the winners and hear their powerful poems performed live. The event will also include a tribute to Vweta Chadwick and a panel discussion on the importance of creating safe spaces for women.

Supporting Safe Spaces

Proceeds from this year’s event will support initiatives aimed at creating safe spaces for women to heal, build, and lift each other, continuing Vweta Chadwick's mission.
